We've made some changes to the Personal Messages section of the site.

First, we gave you an "Outbox". This holds all the messages you have written but have not be read by the other user yet. With it you can check to see if a message was read or correct problems with a message before the other user reads it.

Second, We added a new "Send Message" button from your Personal Messages list and Inbox list. This allows you to send a message to anyone without first having to find their profile page. Simply start typing the user's name in the "To" box and it will suggest names of users. Hopefully, this makes it easier to use the Personal Message system.

We updated the forums to allow you to use color, bold, italics, URLs and images. There is a new editor where you type your message that lets you see, pretty closely, what your post will look like.

In the Gallery we made the first page show the latest images added. This will allow you to check it once in a while to see new images without having to go through all the categories. We also added the ability to attach comments to the images.

This is one of the bigger additions to MeetWNY. We have added an image gallery that all members can contribute to. You can view any image that any user contributes. You may also upload your own images to be added to the gallery. When you send us an image an administrator will have to approve it. Once approved everyone can see it.

We added a feature that if you are the owner of the image, you uploaded it, you will be able to delete it at any time by viewing the image and pressing the delete button. Only the owner of an image and an administrator will see the delete button.

If you didn't notice this one, we added a daily schedule of chat rooms on the home page. This will show all chat rooms that are scheduled for today and tell you if they are open or closed. Also, Chat Rooms will stay open now as long as one person is in it. When the last person leaves after the closing time it will close.

We're also working on a new Gallery feature where members can submit pictures. You will be able to submit an image file, the site will automatically resize it for you, and when an Administrator approves it you will see it in the Gallery. There will be a time delay from when you submit it and it shows up on the site for obvious reasons. After all, this is a clean family site. Look for the Gallery in the next couple of days.

Today we finished a bunch of updates to the chat room pages on the site. You probably won't notice many physical changes, but they should run more reliably. Below is a list of some of the changes/fixes:

• Redesign of the internal chat database.
• Counters and signed in user lists are now more accurate.
• Leaving a chat room page automatically logs you out to make switching rooms easier.
• Member profile page now correctly shows which chat room a member is in with a link to join that chat room.
• You may now invite a user in another chat room to your current chat room. You do this by entering /invite username in the message box of the chat room.
• A few other little things I forgot about.

Also, changes were made to the chat rooms themselves. The Daily Lunch Break room now only opens from 11 AM until 1 PM.  A new General Chat room was created that will always be open. We have also started creating rooms that will open around other TV shows.  You can see what shows are scheduled for any day using the buttons under the Currently Open Chat Rooms list.

We added a new section for links that relate to WNY. I put in a few already, but if you have links you'd like to see added use "Recommend a Link"  on every page in that section. We'll add just about anything related to WNY, including your business. The rules are the same as Forums and Chat... no porn, weapons, racism, yada yada yada...

So feel free to recommend a link and we'll get it added ASAP.

We also added "Ads by Google" but that may fail and get removed. We'll see how that goes.

Another weekend and another bunch of features!

We've added the following to make the site easier to use:

• Forums shows more information about the user posting and now allows you to send a person message to any poster without having to look up their profile.
• The Live Chat link in the menu now has the number of users in chat rooms next to it.
• The Messages now shows the number of unread Personal messages in your mail box.
• The members list now shows who is logged in.
• Member profile now displays what chat room that user is in. This will be more helpful when we have a bunch of chat rooms running. Basically, this gives you a link to that user's current chat room if you need/want to find a specific member for chat.
• We also added an ugly page counter at the bottom of every page.

Well... we added a bunch of stuff.

The biggest is Personal Messages. You can now send messages to each other on the site without knowing each others email address. To do this we deafulted everyones email to hidden. If you want to show it you need to edit "My Account".

FAQ's are new too but it will take time to fill that section in.

We've opened the User Forums section of the web site. This area allows you to maintain long term conversations outside of the chat rooms. The forums are currently relativelly simple but we plan on adding extra features in the near future.

Enjoy the new forums and feel free to make suggestions on how we can make them better.

MeetWNY has opened for a beta period where users are invited to use all the services.

User Forums are currently disabled until we complete a few newly thought of features. Since we only have one chat active it will never close even though the list says it will. As soon as we decide how many chat rooms and what topics they will be, the automatic open and close feature will be enabled.

We plan on having rooms that open around popular TV shows, news and special events. These rooms will be based on your input. For example, if we have requests for a Survivor chat room we can make it open prior to and close after that show on a weekly basis. By doing this, we will provide people interested in the same show a place to chat with others while the show is live.
